AngloGold Ashanti Australia Logo.png

AngloGold Ashanti in an independent, global gold mining company with a diverse, high-quality portfolio of operations, projects and exploration activities across nine countries on four continents. The company has been operating in Australia since 1999 following its takeover of Acacia Resources and has two operations in the north-eastern goldfields in Western Australia – Sunrise Dam and Tropicana.

The Sunrise Dam Gold Mine is wholly-owned and includes a 70% interest in the Butcher Well project, while at Tropicana, AngloGold Ashanti Australia is the 70% owner and manager with Regis Resources Ltd owning 30%.

Sunrise Dam has provided an important foundation for AngloGold Ashanti in Australia since it began production in 1997. A world class orebody, Sunrise Dam has produced approximately 10Moz in 25 years of uninterrupted gold production. Underground mining is now the primary source of ore following the completion of the open pit in 2014.

The Tropicana Gold Mine, located 330 km east-northeast of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, poured first gold in September 2013 after two-and-a-half years of construction and eight years after the initial discovery. It was officially opened in March 2014. One of the top five gold producing operations in Australia, Tropicana transitioned from large scale open pit mining to a combination of open pit and underground mining in 2020. The Boston Shaker underground mine achieved commercial production in September 2020 and achieved its full production rate of 1.1 Mtpa in the second half of 2021.
